ABS Pipe Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or ABS pipe is mainly used as a drain and vent line. This looks very much like a PVC pipe. However, this one is black and slightly softer than a PVC pipe. It is flexible because it can be bent to fit around corners. Galvanized Steel Pipe and Cast Iron These are two additional types of pipes that are sometimes found in older structures and are infrequently installed, mostly by do-it-yourselves. Galvanized steel pipe has been used in decades for drainage, water supply, gas supply, and any number of other purposes. While this pipe is actually still around, it is used less and is never used for water supply in new construction or remodeling projects. On the other hand, cast iron pipe was often used for sewer and drainage. This is still found in many homes and is viable until it rusts completely.
